Sources for Peers, Baronets, MPs et al.

[edit]

As sources for my page editing and creations about the titles of Peers, Baronets et al. and the offices of MP (constituencies) are mainly:

I hope that I always write on wikipedia.org where which information is from.

Peers and their heirs (Wikipedia naming convention)

[edit]

Heya, I've noted that you've been adding heirs apparent to a number of our article on Earldoms and the like, but that you've been giving people titles that they don't (yet) legally have (not until their father dies); Wikipedia convention is that we don't preemptive entitle people, so "John Stewart Sholto Douglas, Lord Aberdour" is located thusly until he does in fact become the 22nd Earl of Morton.
Thanks,
James F. (talk) 15:49, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hallo, nice to have some one to talk to. Thank you for pointing this out to me. I haven't known that before. If you find such an entry, please make sure that it follows this rule. I will change it where I added such an entry and still know that I did. Yours,
V_M_1974 (talk) 17:35, 19 Mar 2005 (MET)
No problem. Happy editing.

Peers in a special period of time

[edit]

elements cross-posted

Would it not be funny and interesting to see who was a peer in a special period of time, let me say from 1410 to 1445 or so? Is this a good idea for a wikipedia article? Please tell me your opinions.
VM (talk) 16:07, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. The problem, of course, becomes the definition of the "special periods". Each century (or even decade) is an easy-enough definition, though arbitrary and not necessarily helpful; random periods such as 1410-1445 (or 15th January 1934 to 22nd October 2003, or whatever) would probably be less useful in generis, and, certainly, would likely be matters of dispute as to which timeframes to use for such periods. But, sure, go for it! I look forward to seeing "Peers in the 20th Century", "Peers in the 1900s", et al..
James F. (talk) 17:33, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ugen64 and I had a similar notion some time ago...eventually we lost interest. You can see the results here:Category:Peers by year.
Mackensen (talk) 18:12, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for this information. I think that in the decades you did the barons are missing, or were there none? That would be very strange.

Table problem

[edit]

ok, I was in the process of fixing it :-) I'll check the page in another window and if you've got it fixed, I'll cancel my edits - but if you want, I'll finish fixing it ...
Brian 07:02, 19 July 2006 (UTC)btball[reply]

Hi, I see you're in the process of editing it, so I'll leave it alone for now. I live near Paris, France but right now I am travelling in the U.S. on the West Coast (Seattle today, Los Angeles tomorrow). It's a little late here (I've been travelling all day), so I am signing off soon for the night. I'll take a look at the table again tomorrow and if you need help then, I'll be glad to do what I can.
Brian 07:06, 19 July 2006 (UTC)btball[reply]
Thanks a lot for helping.
VM 07:14, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I made some minor changes to the table on a copy at my sandbox page Brian's Sandbox. Take a look, if you like it, you can just cut-and-paste to replace the one on the Bridgnorth (UK Parliament constituency) page, or let me know if you want me to do it. If you prefer the one that's there, that's fine too, just let me know so I can delete the copy from my Sandbox page.
Brian 17:04, 19 July 2006 (UTC)btball[reply]

Hi, no, I want to keep the one there that was made by me, I want to keep the constituency pages standard here.

Baronies

[edit]

Hello! I notice that you have recently created a series of Baron pages. Don't forget to categorise them accordingly in order to index the pages. Category:Baronies|<title of article>,<Baron> should do it. Regards,
 (aeropagitica)  (talk)  08:35, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this information and for your changes. I will follow this rule at my further creations.
VM 08:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, stub-sorters would appreciate it if you placed {{UK-noble-stub}} on these articles instead of the generic {{stub}}. This saves us a lot of time if you're going to create a lot of articles about different baronies. Thanks and if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Have a great day and happy editing!

Thank you very much for these pieces of advice.

Redirects

[edit]

You have recently created a bunch of redirects[1] to non-existent pages. Are you planning on creating the target pages (and soon)? If not, these redirects are a bad idea and they will be speedy deleted. Please let me know. Thanks!
JLaTondre 23:26, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am planning on creating these pages. But I also have to learn for university, for I have an oral examination as part of the intermediate diploma on 'creative translating' tomorrow.
VM 08:24, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think, that I have created all these pages now.
VM 14:22, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. In the future, I'd recommend creating the target before the redirect.

Succession

[edit]

Wann welches gilt siehst du hier Template:S-reg. Grüße
Phoe 21:59, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Phoe 22:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Phoe 08:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pontefract

[edit]

Hi, I have just been editing Pontefract (UK Parliament constituency), and came across a discrepancy on which you may be able to shed some light: see Talk:Pontefract (UK Parliament constituency)#creation dates. Thanks!

Courtesy titles

[edit]

I have asked a few things about Courtesy titles on the article's talk page. I hope that whoever answers me will put a sign or a copy of the answer here.
VM 17:33, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I posted a reply to both your queries. Next time, click on "watch this page" after you edit so that you don't have to ask for a notice on your talk page. TysK 23:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duke of Marlborough

[edit]

Spencer family

[edit]

I'm not sure what you want help with; I could maybe provide some assistance. If you have specific questions about the titles specific people held, though (and that seems to be the issue, judging from the comments you made on the talk page), User:Proteus is the best source on Wikipedia. He has access to good resources about the peerage and will be glad to answer your questions. TysK 17:44, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Summary

[edit]

Thank you for the information.

Baron Wittenham

[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Baron Wittenham, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 172.147.250.89 20:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello V M 1974! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 710 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  2. Thomas Clifford, 14th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Baron Truro

[edit]

Hi Arne, This page was a duplication. Can you arrange a merge? Thomas Wilde, 1st Baron Truro and you added Baron Truro Eddaido (talk) 04:29, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot understand why it is a duplication as one page is about one - the first - holder of the title (as there are three holders, subsequently) and the other about the peerage title itself. --VM (talk) 11:38, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
